Headless store? Count visits with GA4
If your storefront is headless, most of its visits never reach Shopify’s own session counts. Google Analytics does count them, so connect it to get your visits and conversion rate.
1. Why Shopify’s sessions are missing
Shopify counts “Store sessions” on its own storefront. A headless storefront runs somewhere else, so a card using them waits and says “Store sessions aren’t imported from Shopify”. It then points you to Google Analytics. See When a card is waiting or can't show.
2. Connect Google Analytics
- In Settings, “Connections”, choose “Add a connection”, then “New Google Analytics login”.
- Sign in with Google.
- Tick the properties that belong to this workspace’s brand, then import them.
Have a property for each site? Connect each one, and leave out any all-sites property beside them. Otherwise those visits count twice. See Google Analytics 4.
3. Drag in “Website traffic (GA4)”
You’ll find it in the sidebar’s “Templates” tab. It brings GA4 sessions, engagement rate, conversion rate and sales per session, plus sessions by channel group each day and a table of channel groups. See The templates.
Conversion rate and sales per session divide Shopify’s orders and net sales by Google Analytics’ sessions. That way, your sales stay Shopify’s real numbers.
Good to know
- The right template shows for you. Once Stetto sees your visits come only from Google Analytics, Shopify’s version, “Traffic and conversion”, leaves the “Templates” tab.
- Stetto knows too. Ask it about visits or conversion and it answers from Google Analytics’ sessions.
- The latest day or two by channel can still move. Google Analytics is still sorting those visits into channel groups. See Google Analytics 4.
Who can do this
Team admins connect Google Analytics, and editors add the template. See Roles: admin, editor, viewer.
