States, provinces and maps
A map card shades every country by one number, so you can see at a glance where your sales come from. For a store that ships to the US or Canada, it can shade every state or province instead.
Make a map
Select a card and choose “Map” in the right panel’s “Look” tab, or ask Stetto (“map net sales by country, last 30 days”). Then pick the outlines under “Map”:
- “World”. Every country.
- “US states” or “Canadian provinces”. These show when your store ships to the US or Canada.
A map shows one metric over the card’s dates and filters, and follows the region switch like any card. See The region switch.
Reading it
- Darker means more. Shading grows with the square root of the value, so one big market doesn’t wash every other country out.
- Hover a country or state for its exact value and its change.
- Anything with no place on the map is listed under it. That covers orders with no country recorded, and places the map has no outline for: “Not on the map: No country”.
What can be mapped
Only numbers recorded by where they happened:
- World map. Shopify sales and orders (by ship-to country), store visits, and Google Analytics’ visits.
- State and province maps. Shopify sales, orders, units, discounts and refunds by ship-to state, and Google Analytics’ visits.
Ad spend and email aren’t recorded by country, so MER, ROAS and CAC can’t be mapped. New customers count on a world map, but not by state.
Good to know
- States come from each order’s ship-to address, so a state map covers your whole sales history.
- Sample data spreads each day across states and provinces by population. A sample map looks real, but it isn’t any store’s. See Sample data.
